Mountain Trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro :: Packing List

Gear needed for your Mt. Kilimanjaro trek.  Some items can be rented before your climb.  An approximate cost of these items is included in { }

Day Pack, Small or medium bag for you to carry

Kit bag (duffle bag) or a rucksack/backpack with or without a lock {$10} for your porter to carry

Head torch, with batteries and lamps

Telescoping trekking pole (optional, but recommended).  Adjustable {$10}, non-adjustable {$6}

3 to 4 one-liter water bottles (camel bags). These should fit underneath your jacket to keep the water from freezing

Sleeping bag for -10 centigrade (15 Fahrenheit) or lower {$15}

Tipping on Your Mt. Kilimanjaro Trek:
Usually it costs each trekker about $18 to $25/day to tip the entire climbing crew (Leading guide, assistant guide, porters and a cook), so, for say, a 6 days trek, it would cost you about $130 to $180 for tipping, and tipping is done at the end of trip.

Basically, here are recommended tip from a group (not for each climber):
Leading guide: $16/day
Assistant guide: $12/day (for each assistant guide)
Porters: $7/day (for each porter)
Cook: $8/day.
