Tribal Cultures Hadzabe

The Hadzabe number about 6000 individuals. They live in the Lake Eyasi basin, situated on the northern shores of Lake Eyasi, within the great East African rift valley . The Hadzabe have traditionally lived by hunting and gathering. They are found in four districts ,namely, Karatu, Mbulu, Ngorongoro and Meatu in Arusha, Manyara and Shinyanga regions.

Their language is a tongue click type. This is unlike any other language in Tanzania. The Hadzabe are thought to be the original inhabitants in Tanzania. They have suffered considerable marginalization and the encroachment on their land. Hunting an activity which they depend for their live hood but this outlawed in games reserves and national parks some of which are close to their territory.

In the early 1980's the Hadzabe population ranged between 3000-4000. Currently, their population is estimated to be 6000, probably the lowest population of any ethnic group in the Tanzania.
